New Delhi: Pointing to its victory in several Delhi University college union elections, the ABVP on Friday expressed confidence of winning all four posts in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) polls.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) said in a statement that it has secured clean sweeps in Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), Shivaji College, Bharati College, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).
It also announced its victory in the key posts at Keshav Mahavidyalaya and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, besides winning posts at the Department of Library Sciences.
The college union results began to be declared even as voting for the four central Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) posts, namely president, vice-president, secretary, and joint secretary, was underway across the university on Friday.
Counting of votes for the DUSU central panel is scheduled for Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus.
ABVP said its candidates, namely, Yash Dabas for president, Eshu Maurya for vice president, Riya Chhabri for secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for joint secretary, have received students' support in the DUSU elections and expressed confidence that it would be a ‘4-0’ victory for the outfit when the results are declared.
The organisation also alleged attempts to influence the electoral process, claiming that two persons were handed over to the police at Dyal Singh College for allegedly distributing pamphlets carrying incorrect details about its name and panel.
It also claimed that a female student carrying a fake ID card was caught at Law Centre -2 (Morning), while two other students carrying fake IDs fled the spot.
ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma demanded an impartial investigation into the incidents and action against those found guilty.
"The DUSU election is not an election for Rahul Gandhi's president's seat; it is a democratic election of the students of Delhi University," Sharma said.
He also said the ABVP welcomed the Delhi High Court's directions on the election process, including the prohibition on victory processions, and has instructed its workers to comply with them.
